Class Organization

Each day is 10am-5pm with one 30 minute break.
Students use each other as models or may bring one model.
Students seeking personal makeup growth, or in the event of an odd # of students, may apply on themselves.
All makeup is provided.
Students may use their own makeup if preferred.
Makeup brushes are not provided. A professional makeup brush set is available for $80. (usually 89.95)

The Makeup Gourmet is ready to ring in the New Year in style with its top five hot tips on how women can look fabulous for the dawn of 2010.

According to The Makeup Gourmet, Chris Scott, if ever there was a night that women (or men for that matter) want to look gorgeous, New Years Eve is it.

“It is always good omen to start the upcoming year off right by looking beautiful. Though this is often easier said than done, there are a few simple guidelines that will help keep everyone looking and feeling their absolute best,” Mr Scott, added.

Here are the Makeup Gourmet’s Top Five Hot Tips for Unbelievable New Year’s Eve Makeup, along with a few helpful tips on what to avoid:

Go for the Glow
Do try to make the look of the skin a ‘glowy’ one. Adjust the look to the fact that New Year’s Eve means dancing and flirting and the skin will show it. This way the more fun one has, the more their body temperature will enhance the look.

Try to avoid matte looking skin as most people will be fighting it all night long. Having to powder and re-powder throughout the night to maintain the look is such a hassle. It is New Years Eve and one should liberate themselves from this burdensome task.

Monroe not Manson Mascara
If possible wear waterproof mascara or false lashes. For those who just can’t see yourself in false lashes, get a highly-rated waterproof mascara avoids the inevitable meltdown once the party kicks into high gear. For others, false lashes are the best way to glam up a look and avoid mascara altogether.

Remember – avoid standard mascara. New Year’s Eve is a night to look like Marilyn Monroe not Marilyn Manson.

Toss the Gloss
By all means do wear a high-sheen permanent lip color. The beauty of this formula is that there is no transfer or loss of color to regardless as to where individual lips happen to have been previously. Drugstores carry vibrant inexpensive colors so it’s a guilt free purchase even if only used for a night.

This of course means it’s a night to toss the lip gloss, so there will be no need for annoying touch ups. Plus it leaves a forensic trail of where and who anyone might have been playing with.

Damn the Glitter
Select a -like eye shadow and face brighteners. These products give the full effect of glitter without the hazard of getting anything in one’s eyes.

Avoid at all costs loose glittery products above the eyes. It is fun to be glittery all over, however, one small piece in the eye and the rest of New Year’s Eve could be spent hunched over the sink trying to flush it out.

Leave Luxury Behind
Avoid packing high end makeup with you for New Years Eve to touch up with. Chances are a prized lip liner will end up in a cab, a pressed powder case will shatter or a favorite discontinued lip-gloss will be lost forever.

When it comes to choosing her makeup artist, she will hold you, the makeup artist, under great scrutiny. The specificity that a bride expects of all her vendors is the challenge that all wedding vendors face when offering wedding services.

That it is why it is imperative that as a makeup artist, you get the best training before marketing yourself to the bridal client. However being a great makeup artist is only part of the skill set you need to master. There is a whole other list besides your wedding makeup artist skills that are as equally important when providing services to a bridal client.

Wedding/Bridal Makeup Training School of Classes:
The key to a successful makeup artist training is the 100 little details that add up to the perfect look. It is crucial that your bridal/wedding makeup school focuses on small enrollment and individualized attention. Although live demonstrations during your training reveal what you need to know, actual application is where these lessons stick. Make sure that the class you sign up for is mostly about you applying makeup. Also, keep in mind that like any other artistic skill, every lesson gets you farther along your training. Accept each new idea as a tool you can put in your bag of tricks, to pullout when the opportunity presents itself.

Constant Clear Communication:
Always, and I mean always, return a communication from your client ASAP. The reason they are contacting you is they need a question answered. This is such a big part of being a great bridal/wedding makeup artist. Once you are in conversation with a bridal makeup client, make every effort to be as clear and forthcoming as possible. Remember that the client is juggling many more details than you, the more you can do the work for her, the happier everyone will be. Have a clear and precise style of how you do business so that there is no uncertainty on either end. Contact information is key. On the day of service, it is your job to find and service her. Do not rely on the fact that she may need you and it is in her best interest to find you. Make every effort to predict possible complications and address them before they do become actual obstacles.

Professional Promptness:
As the wedding season heats up, there is also a lot of juggling on the bridal/wedding makeup artist’s end. When possible, you want to book your Saturday’s solid. Some single bookings last all day but some only an hour. As your schedule comes into focus, pay careful mind to what you can realistically do. The minimum you want to arrive early for your scheduled appointment with the bridal party is 15 minutes. I always shoot for 30 minutes. There are always unforeseen obstacles that pop up unexpectedly with every job. Directions, traffic, parking, locating your client in the hotel etc. are just the obvious elements for which you need to budget time. Then factor the unexpected surprises along the way and it becomes clear, better 30 minutes early than 1 minute late.

Efficiency/Adaptability:
Generally speaking, wedding makeup jobs require doing more than one bridal makeup application. It is vital for you to be able to effectively apply consistently beautiful makeup on a series of people in a timely fashion. This goes back to clear communication with your client so that you both know who and when someone is in your makeup chair. As always, the best laid plans may always change very quickly due to some unforeseen circumstance. Learn to be patient and adapt to the situation. Try to calmly always have someone in your chair, even if that means you only finish half the job on one person, take another emergency person, and then get back to the unfinished makeup for completion.

Graciousness:
Please always keep this in mind. You are choosing to put yourself in this sometimes high-pressure situation. No matter how challenging your experience may be, it is imperative that you keep the bride and her wedding party’s experience a sublime one. It is called service for a reason. Luckily, I have found that the more you embrace the first four points in this communication, the easier this last one will be. Charge what you feel your time and talent is worth. Accept gratuities graciously however do not expect them.

Treat Cosmetics As a Service, Not a Retail, Industry And Get Pampering Beauty Treatments For Free

As times look to be getting tougher as we close out 2008 and head into 2009, let us not forget the simple pleasures in life. One of which is being pampered, especially for FREE.

Any cosmetic/makeup department can be an intimidating environment for the unfamiliar. However, to the informed and/or experienced person, it is a goldmine of FREE SAMPLES and COMPLIMENTARY SERVICES.

Although Cosmetics is ultimately a retail business, its main in-store business model is promotional services. Following are my tips to maximize the FREE SERVICE PROMOTIONS offered daily in most cosmetic departments. My goal is to re-orientate you to cosmetics so you see it as a source of pleasure and not one of an overwhelming and intimidating sales-pitch.

1. Cosmetics is a service, not a retail industry. Approach it with this mindset and you will receive the many joys it has to offer. Position yourself as a guest, not a customer, and you will be amazed at the depth and quality of service you receive.

2. Cosmetics constantly offers everyday and special promotional services to demonstrate their products. Here is an example of the type of FREE PROMOTIONS that go on somewhere every day.

➢ Facials
➢ Samples
➢ Massage
➢ Hair styling/treatment
➢ Fashion/trend shows
➢ Nails
➢ Portrait Photography
➢ Video lessons
➢ Master classes
➢ Seminars
➢ Refreshments
➢ Gift with purchase (added value)
➢ Purchase with Purchase (added value)

3. You are never wasting anyone’s time by having him or her demonstrate their product on you. That is their job and this is how they sell their products. Especially in this economy, having someone in the store is better than having no one in the store. Who knows, you may come across a product that really makes you feel better. In a time of economic uncertainty, personal products are a small luxury we can afford ourselves rather than a trip to Tahiti.

4. To be invited to attend, simply call the Cosmetic Department, or better yet a department manager, and ask them what promotions they have upcoming. Ask up front what the expectation is on your part. Sometimes a minimum purchase is attached to the promotion. Most of the time these services are free or extremely inexpensive. Then simply make an appointment for you (and a friend if so desired) and show up. Someone will be waiting for you and away you go. If you have a brand of preference, call them first to see what is on their promotional calendar.

5. Whenever you need to replenish a product, like mascara, or need a new lipstick, definitely call ahead and book a FREE PROMOTIONAL SERVICE, before you go to make your purchase. The more you coincide your purchases with FREE PROMOTIONAL SERVICES, the more value (and pampered bliss) you will receive. There is usually something special happening everyday, more closer to the weekend. Even if you go to a brand that has a better FREE PROMOTIONAL SERVICE that day and you buy your usual mascara, the sales person assisting you still makes commission, regardless of what you buy.

6. As with any promotional offer, it is best to use good judgment whether you are participating with or taking advantage of the situation. Depending on where you live, you may have a limited or wide variety of choices of where to shop. It is best to not be labeled as a “user’. If a brand does not appeal to you at all after your first encounter, it is best not to return just for a free service. However if a brand intrigues you, it is in your and the stores interest to have you attend and experience their product in as many ways as possible.

7. Remember: it is your time as much as the person who works in the store. You are willing to give a brand a chance and they are jumping at the opportunity to show it to you. Ultimately, you will become far more familiar with your choices in beauty products and will probably get better results because you invested your time to learn about the products you choose to use. Everybody wins. The store gains a customer and you gain newfound knowledge and an open invitation to experience the wide variety of pleasurable promotions that are offered daily.

3 years ago a great friend adamantly insisted I begin to blog. All right, I'll blog.

As a makeup artist and entertainer, I work hard to combine my skill of makeup with my passion of makeup. I host my own TV show, Makeup Gourmet. I have just begun a seminar speaking business based on my extensive cosmetic experience. This Saturday, October 25 2008 is my first big seminar. It is called COSMETIC COUNTER SURVIVAL SEMINAR and it is crafted to maximize the attendee's cosmetic service and shopping experience. I am very excited about this new venture.
